Blankets, Baby Hats Come From Love
North Hempstead Town's Blankets of Love will donate dozens of crocheted blankets and baby hats to organizations like Ronald McDonald House.
NEW HYDE PARK, NY – Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park will be one of three community organizations to receive a donation of blankets and baby hats as part of North Hempstead Town’s Project Independence Blankets of Love program.
Project Independence's Blankets of Love group, which based in New Hyde Park before going remote during the COVID-19 pandemic, created 42 crochet blankets for children and babies, as well as 13 baby hats. In addition to Ronald McDonald House, the items will be donated to North Hempstead’s Veterans Donation Drive and Bethany House of Nassau County.
North Hempstead’s Veterans Donation Drive, which benefits the Northport VA Medical Center, is a holiday collection drive designed to assist and give back to the veterans who served in the United States armed forces. Ronald McDonald House charities provides peer support for families with sick children and accommodations so that the families can remain close to their children while they seek medical treatment. Bethany House, which was formed in 1978, helps homeless families by providing emergency shelter and support services for women and their children.

Blankets of Love, a crocheting and knitting group formed by Project Independence members, provides an opportunity for senior residents in the community to come together and work in a collaborative manner on a meaningful and rewarding projects.
“The blankets turned out beautifully, and [project members] hard work will put a smile on so many faces this holiday season,” stated Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth in a news release.
