Commercial printer creates 2K face shields for Parker

Parker Jewish Institute gratefully received 2,000 face shields created and delivered by Hatteras, a commercial printing firm in Tinton Falls, New Jersey.

The face shields are for Parker’s dedicated health-care workers on the frontline at Parker Jewish Institute as they tend to patients, many of whom are the populations’ most vulnerable to the unrelenting coronavirus.

Bill Duerr, the president of Hatteras, described the experience as “most humbling,” adding “there’s been an overwhelming response.”

Like other companies, the firm saw business slow once the pandemic hit, so Duerr sought ways to put his resources to good use.

“I saw there was a big need for face shields made of materials that we typically print on,” Duerr said.

He found a prototype to create the face shields. And in one week his team created and donated 7,000 face shields to local hospitals.

Through a GoFundMe campaign, Hatteras has since raised more than $33,000, and matches every dollar raised. To date, this commitment enabled the firm to create and donate more than 30,000 face masks, and keep workers at the firm employed.

Duerr spread the word about the initiative through social media. As more people heard about the program, his friend Greg Schneider, whose family works in health care, connected him with Parker, where the shields are worn by health-care workers to help prevent the virus’ spread. And now, the firm’s corporate clients are supporting the effort by buying the face shields and donating them to health-care facilities.
