Helen Karathanasis, 81, Interior Decorator

Helen Karathanasis formerly of Yonkers passed away on May 17, 2013 at the age of 81. She was born on February 6, 1932 in Athens, Greece to the late George and Georgia Paraskevopoulos.

Helen was married to Nicholas Karathanasis on Oct. 23, 1960 in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in NYC and was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos, Calavryta Fraternity and the Prophet Elias Mr. & Mrs. Club and worked as an Interior Decorator.

She is predeceased by her husband Nicholas and survived by her children Evan & Dorothea Karathanasis of Scarsdale; Georgia and Jim Gounaris (Herricks School Board Trustee) of New Hyde Park and Maria & John Gisondi of Harrison and is also survived by her grandchildren Kristina & Nick Karathanasis; Elianna, Billy, Nicholas, & Katerina Gounaris and Johnny, Jake & Andrew Gisondi.

Helen is also survived by her siblings Christos & Eleni Parras of Yonkers; Peter Parras of Cleveland Ohio; Gregory & Evie Parras of Athens and Tasos & Lela of Athens.

A wake was held on May 19 at the Church of Our Saviour with the burial following at Mount Hope Cemetery . In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Church of Our Saviour located at 2195 Westchester Ave East, Rye, N.Y. 10580.
