Herricks Schools to be Open on Limited Basis Monday

Herricks schools will be open on Monday, but strictly on a limited basis for students according to a message posted on the school district website Sunday afternoon.

Tuesday the schools would not be open for students, but activities, clubs and athletics were all cancelled. 

The following message was posted on the Herricks School website from Superintendent Dr. Jack Bierwirth:

Monday will not be a normal school day but we will be open, particularly for students whose families must return to work Monday or whose homes still do not have power or light. We will do the best we can but it will not be a regular day.

Schools will open at their normal times and close at their normal times. However, students need not arrive promptly at start times but will be welcome to arrive whenever they can.

There will be no after school activities, clubs or athletics. There will also be no field trips.

Buses will follow their normal routes to the extent possible. If your street is still blocked Monday, please call the transportation office or assume that the buses will not make their normal stop.

Please be careful walking or driving to school. As you know, there are still some dangerous situations at this point and there may still be some Monday. We do not want or expect anyone to have their children come to school if it exposes them to an unsafe situation. All absences will be excused.

Finding sufficient fuel is currently a very significant challenge for everyone on Long Island. We are running our buses Monday but may not be able to do so later in the week if diesel fuel runs short. We will let you know if that should happen.

Schools will not be open for students on Tuesday as scheduled in the calendar.
