Herricks Science Research Student Named National Finalist

A Herricks High School student has been named one of nine national finalists for the 2013 Neuroscience Research Prize.

Edward Ham, the son of Sun and Young Ham of Roslyn, submitted his project entitled,“The Effect of Size and Charge on the Diffusive Permeability of Nanoparticles Across an In-Vitro model of the Blood Brain Barrier.” He completed his neuroscience research project at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Herricks High School was notified of the selection on Nov. 9, 2012. The award is sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology and the Child Neurology Society to encourage and reward high school students who explore the world of the brain and nervous system through laboratory research.

As a national finalist, Ham will be interviewed by a select panel of physicians and scientists in order to compete to be named as one of four award recipients. The announcement of the winners will be made in late February.

He was mentored by Mrs. Renée Barcia, Herricks High School Science Research teacher.
