New Hyde Park Football Team Wins On Wild Last-Second Play: WATCH

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — For the kids on New Hyde Park's junior varsity Gladiators football team, Monday's comeback win will go down as one of the most insane, bonkers, unforgettable storybook endings they'll ever see — let alone experience.

Down five points with seconds left in the game, the Gladiators drew up one last desperation trick play. A pitch to the running back and immediate hand-off to a wide receiver as a second receiver streaks down the far sideline.

In reality, the play broke down almost as fast as it started.

After a smooth hike and quick pitch to the halfback, the sweeping receiver fumbled the ensuing hand-off, running past the oblong ball for a but a moment before gathering his wits and snatching the pigskin off the field. Tailed by a hungry defender, the receiver darted to his left, eyes downfield knowing there should be someone near the end zone.

He was right.

With one last heave, the receiver hurled the ball from the opponent's 40 yard line. Sailing through the air, the football fell to the 7 yard line — into the waiting hands of a second wide receiver, who immediately sprinted toward the end zone.

With one last-ditch effort, he dragged a defender into the end zone. Touchdown. Ball game.
