NEW HYDE PARK, NY — The New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District has a new budget, and the results of the school board election were also announced. Voters on Tuesday passed the 2020-21 proposed budget, with 1,485 votes in favor and 777 votes against, the district said.

Furthermore, Tara Notine, the board's vice president, and trustee James Reddan were both re-elected.

The budget vote comes as school districts across the state face uncertainty over the amount of state aid they'll receive. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has warned that the economic effect of the coronavirus shutdown could mean much less money available for state education aid. The state will assess and adjust its budget several times in the course of this year. The governor has estimated that state aid would be 20 percent lower than promised.
