New Hyde Park Gets 4 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
More than 70 electric vehicle charging stations have been installed throughout New York, including 16 in Nassau and 14 in Suffolk.
NEW HYDE PARK, NY — State officials have installed more than 70 electric vehicle dual-port charging stations throughout New York, including 16 in Nassau County and 14 in Suffolk. In New Hyde Park, four charging stations were installed at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Six were installed in Westbury, four were installed in Manhasset and two were installed in Mineola.
The installation was announced Thursday by the New York Power Authority and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The charging ports are all located at ReCharge NY customer locations, part of an initiative by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo to install them quicker.
The mass installation aligns with the goals of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, which state officials called the most aggressive climate change law in the country. Charging stations will encourage more people to drive electric vehicles and promotes an 85 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The stations were installed through a program partnership between the power authority and research agency, which funds the program with up to $4,000 per charging port.
