New Hyde Park Native Earns NCAA All-America Honors In Soccer

He becomes just the fifth Hofstra University men's soccer student-athlete to earn All-America honors.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — A New Hyde Park native who plays for Hofstra University has been named to the NCAA's Division I All-America Second Team. The United Soccer Coaches organization named junior forward Matthew Vowinkel to the team Wednesday.

Vowinkel, who went to Chaminade for high school and studies finance in college, is the university's fifth men's soccer student-athlete to earn All-America honors, joining Michael Todd (2006), Chris Griebsch (2013), Joseph Holland (2015), and Sean Nealis (2018).

Vowinkel was also named to the organization's All-East Region Team and has earned several postseason awards. He led the team in goals this season with 13 as well as in points at 28. Both were career bests and ranked second second-most in the Colonial Athletic Association.

The team finished the season with an overall record of 10-6-3. The team went 5-3-1 within the conference.
