Parker Jewish Institute attends Aging in Place conference

In its continued mission to support older adults and their families in the community, Parker Jewish Institute and AgeWell New York took part in North Hempstead’s fifth annual Aging in Place Conference and Expo on Tuesday, October 29, at Harbor Links Clubhouse in Port Washington. The event, part of the town’s Project Independence senior program, was free, and open to the public.

At the conference, senior residents and their families attended panels on veteran benefits and entitlements and Medicare 2020 updates.

Staff from Parker was on-hand to provide information on its skilled nursing facility as well as its community programs. These programs include Parker’s Social Adult Day Care Center, and free services through Parker’s Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands, a community service for family caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. Also of interest was Parker At Your Door, a medical house-call program available in Queens and Nassau counties.

At the conference, a representative from AgeWell New York shared information about Medicare as well as managed long-term care and prescription drug plan options and how these tools help to maintain overall health and well-being.
