'Shed the Meds' Program Helps Residents Dispose of Unwanted Medication Safely
Over 200 pounds of expired and unwanted medications were collected for safe disposal

More than 100 residents were able to safely dispose of approximately 200 pounds of expired and unused medications at New Hyde Park Memorial High School’s “Shed the Meds” program sponsored by Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola), County Executive Ed Mangano and Legislator Rich Nicolello.
Through the program, residents were able to drive up, drop off their expired or unwanted medications and drive away. All medications collected were taken by the Nassau County Police Department for safe disposal, which partnered with Senator Martins, Mangano and Nicolello to offer this service.
“I’m so pleased that so many people took advantage of this service,” Senator Martins said. “Safely disposing of medications keeps them from polluting the waterways and out of the wrong hands. This was a very successful program and I thank everyone who participated.”
