Town To Purchase Debris Vacuum Truck For New LIRR Underpass

North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board have announced that the Town will be utilizing a portion of the money from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Community Benefit fund to purchase a new debris vacuum truck.

The MTA’s Community Benefit fund allocates $20 million in funding for unexpected costs and to resolve the impact resulting from the Long Island Railroad’s (LIRR) Third Track project to communities that are adjacent to the new line. The money was distributed among the different areas along the project route including: Mineola, New Hyde Park, Floral Park, Garden City, Westbury along with North Hempstead.

“We hope to continue to use the money, provided to the Town by the MTA’s Community Benefit Fund, for projects that will help improve the safety of our community and quality of life for our residents,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “The addition of a vacuum truck to our fleet of vehicles will enable us to properly care for the roadways and new underpasses created by the Third Track project.”

The vacuum truck will be used to help properly maintain the new infrastructure created by the third track project. It will allow the Town to keep storm drains clean and prevent flooding. The vacuum truck’s cost of $473,038 will be fully reimbursed using the funding.

Applications for the Community Benefit Fund are still being accepted. While individual applications are not being accepted, community organizations in the Garden City Park, Carle Place and New Cassel communities are encouraged to reach out to their local elected officials for more information.
