Davidson, 37, of Floral Park, was a 15-year FDNY veteran ofEngine Company 69 in Manhattan and had been cited for bravery and life-saving actions four times in his career. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, three daughters, ages 7, 3, and 1 and a son, 6.

Davidson comes from a family of firefighters, officials said. His father Robert was a 26-year veteran of the FDNY and his brother Eric is an 11-year veteran of fire engine 88 in the Bronx, officials said.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that Davidson was posthumously promoted to lieutenant on Saturday. Davidson passed the exam for lieutenant in 2015 and was on the list for promotion.

“Our city lost a hero and we honor the sacrifice of one of New York City’s bravest – his death is a heartbreaking tragedy and 8.5 million New Yorkers are in solidarity with his family,” de Blasio said. “His steadfast dedication to this city will not be forgotten and continues with his deserved promotion to Lieutenant in the FDNY.”

Fire Commissioner David Nigro said the promotion was well-deserved. “Lieutenant Davidson was a natural-born leader and dedicated member of the FDNY who died fighting and serving our city,” Nigro said.
