Week Ahead Weather For Long Island: What Happened To Spring?

The week ahead looks dry, at least until we get to the weekend, but unseasonably cool for Long Island, according to the National Weather Service. High temperatures will be 5-10 degrees below normal the entire week. And at night, at least during the early part of the week, it will feel more like winter than spring.

“Sweatshirts, jeans and heavier jackets may be needed when heading out for any evening activities or sporting events,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rathbun said. “Many will also turn on heat in their homes.”

The next chance of rain comes next weekend.

"There remains a lot of uncertainty with timing and impacts across the region through next weekend as placements and strengths of the systems has been changing with each model forecast run," the NWS said in a forecast discussion.

Those hoping to break out the shorts and T-shirts for warm weather activities once again will likely have to wait until the second half of the month, AccuWeather says, when near- to slightly above-normal temperatures are expected to return.

Monday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Tuesday- Partly sunny, with a high near 57. West wind 6 to 9 mph.

Tuesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 43. West wind around 6 mph becoming north after midnight.

Wednesday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 60.

Wednesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 46.

Thursday- Partly sunny, with a high near 61.

Thursday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48.

Friday- Partly sunny, with a high near 61.

Friday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49.

Saturday- A 30 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 61.
