Volunteers Give Huguenot Children's Library Fresh Paint

Volunteers organized by The Volunteer Center of United Way honored the birth of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. with a day of service on January 19th that included painting the vestibule, first floor and bathroom at the Huguenot Children’s Library. Pictured here, L to R: Yvonne Shivers, Tom Salamone, NRPL Director Tom Geoffino, Cassandra Campbell, Maria Carmela Prieto and Brenda Wilkin.

This was one of 23 projects in Westchester coordinated by The Volunteer Center as part of the annual MLK Day of Service: Across the country thousands of nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, schools and businesses participated in projects that included delivering meals, refurbishing schools and community centers, collecting food and clothing, signing up mentors, reading to children, promoting nonviolence, and more. The MLK Day of Service, led by The Corporation for National and Community Service, working with the King Center in Atlanta, shines a spotlight on service as a powerful force to bridge economic and social divides.  Visit nationalservice.gov for more information.
