New Rochelle, NY (11/16/2020) – The Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle is pleased to announce it has received a $100,000 grant from the The CherCares Pandemic Resource and Response Fund. These funds will support covering the cost of rehiring staff to extend virtual learning centers for children who require care and support when school is virtual and their parents have to return to work.
With the loss in revenue due to COVID19, funding is critical to our ability to meet this urgent need in our community. Funding from CherCares will allow us to rehire the staff necessary to expand beyond a traditional after school program. Additional staff will allow us to serve more children during school hours while they distance learn. The funding will allow us to bring on the needed staff and ensure that no child who needs us is denied access.

“We know that many of our parents have to go to work. With the hybrid school schedules they have had to make some difficult choices,” Executive Director, Lutonya Russell-Humes said. “Cher’s generosity will allow us to give them a safe option that will make it possible for them to work knowing that their children are safe and supported during remote learning.”

About The CherCares Pandemic Resource and Response Fund
The CherCares Pandemic Resource and Response Fund strives to ensure that medical staff and people exposed to COVID-19 have the supplies and support they need. Cher and Dr. Irwin Redlener, Founding Director of National Center for Disaster Preparedness at (NCDP) Columbia University’s Earth Institute, formed the CherCares Pandemic Resource and Response Fund to help underserved communities struggling with poverty and other adversities long before COVID-19 appeared. The focus is on the most needy children and families in America.
Donations are geared toward people in rural and urban communities who have minimal access to physical protection and medical care. CherCares has identified where the greatest needs are and have provided PPE, treatment and testing to clinics in targeted communities and hot spots through existing health care facilities. Equipment and supplies have already been provided to the Aaron E. Henry Community Health Center in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to be followed by support for low income farmworkers in California’s Central Valley, overstressed clinics across the country and caring for disadvantaged children in New York who haven’t been able to access their usual clinics because of COVID-19 concerns. As more hotspots are identified CherCares will continue to offer help to those communities.
