Bronx Man Accused Of Assault While In Car On Thruway

At one point, police said, the man grabbed the steering wheel and tried to cause a crash.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A Bronx man was accused of assault after a domestic incident while being driven on the Thruway.

The New York State Police said James D. McManus, 49, of the Bronx, was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment, misdemeanors.

Police said the incident happened in a car on Interstate 95 in the city of New Rochelle.

Troopers found, during an investigation, that McManus struck the woman who was driving the car several times in the face and head causing injury.

He also grabbed the steering wheel attempting to cause a crash while the woman was driving, police said.

She was able to pull over and get out of the car, according to authorities.

When McManus got out of the car as well, the woman got back in and drove off from the scene, police said.

McManus was arrested and was arraigned in the Town of Pelham Court.

He was released on his own recognizance to appear in the City of New Rochelle Court on a later date.
