Catastrophe Avoided, Community Rallies To Rescue Trapped Kitten

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — On May 5, Detective Mike Vaccaro happened to be in the parking lot of a local restaurant when he became aware that a kitten was trapped in a car engine of a parked car, but don’t worry because this story has a happy ending.

A three-hour, intense rescue effort saved the kitten nicknamed “Lucky Nugget” from the engine of a car parked at the popular dining spot Chickens Gone Wild on Main Street in New Rochelle. The job of extracting the kitten from the vehicle required help from Safeway Towing who lifted the car to allow access to the scared feline.

The kitten and the rescuers are no worse for wear after the life-saving heroics. Lucky Nugget (or Chicken Nugget as the folks at Chickens Gone Wild prefer as a moniker) was taken to the Humane Society of Westchester at New Rochelle. The kitten is said to be recovering from the excitement and will soon be up for adoption.

“Not only do we intervene when necessary to help human life, but we also step in to assist our four legged friends,” the New Rochelle Police Benevolent Association wrote in a social media post singling out the detective’s hard work to protect and serve even the tiniest citizens. “Lucky Nugget, that’s one down eight to go. Stay safe out there! Way to go New Rochelle Police Department Detective Vaccaro.”

Detective Vaccaro’s efforts were also rewarded with plenty of cuddles from a freed and grateful new four-legged friend.
