YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY — Many senior students in the Hudson Valley were expecting to celebrate their final year with prom, graduation, and other milestone events. However, the new coronavirus crisis has meant that dreams and long-awaited celebrations have been put on hold.

Patch would like to shine a light on these amazing young people and their accomplishments; a new series "Celebrate Your Senior," inviting proud parents and others to spotlight the young people whose accomplishments can't be derailed by the pandemic.

John Skorcik and Karla Merchan nominated John Skorcik, a senior at Yorktown High School.

Here's what the proud parents had to say about their son:

"We are the proud parents of John Skorcik. He was born after 9/11, graduated in the middle of a Pandemic, he was born with a congenital heart condition rarely known. Resiliency as its best! John is heading to Rochester Institute of Technology to study Computer Science this coming fall."
