Douglas P. Crane Jr., Former New Rochelle Police Officer, Dies
A lifelong New Rochelle resident, Crane was 57 when he died.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Douglas P. Crane Jr., beloved son of Maureen Hurley Crane and Douglas P Crane Sr. passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on May 4, 2018, at the age of 57. A lifelong New Rochelle resident, Crane was also a former New Rochelle police officer. He graduated from the Westchester County Police Academy in 1986, and later in his career, he returned as an instructor.
While at the New Rochelle Police Department he was a patrol officer and then a field training officer where he organized training scenarios and assisted the departmental training unit with in-house employee training and education. He then became a systems manager for the departmental computer system and he collaborated with a network of computer systems managers involving numerous multi-state police departments and law enforcement agencies.
Before joining the police academy, Douglas attended Cathedral Preparatory Seminary in New York and then Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception in Douglaston, Queens, here he received his bachelor's degree in philosophy. After discernment, he decided not to pursue a priestly vocation and concluded that the police academy was where he should be. He felt that decision was one of his best and he loved his chosen career.
