SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER, NY — Because of low humidity and wind gusts, the National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for southern Westchester Monday afternoon. A dry air mass will combine with increasing northwest winds to create conditions more conducive for fire spread during the mid- to late afternoon.

Relative humidity should decrease to 30 percent to 35 percent during that time, while wind gusts increase to 20 to 25 mph.

The weather service said those conditions could aid fire spread if ignition occurs.
