As part of the ongoing Ancient Greeks/Modern Lives initiative, NYU Prof. Joel Ward will be screening the 1966 Emmy-award winning movie Barefoot in Athens about the trial and last days of Socrates on Saturday, March 17th from 2 to 4 pm in the Ossie Davis Theater at the New Rochelle Public Library. Adapted from a play by Maxwell Anderson, Barefoot in Athens stars Peter Ustinov as Socrates (a role for which he won an Emmy) along with Geraldine Page, Anthony Quayle and, in his film debut, Christopher Walken.  Prof. Ward holds a BA from Hope College and an MA from Tulane University; his special areas of interest are Roman historiography, ancient prose, sociolinguistics and numismatics. This event is free and open to the public.
