Funeral Arrangements Announced For Assemblyman Skartados

Skartados died Sunday of pancreatic cancer.

MILTON, NY — Funeral arrangements for state Assemblyman Frank Skartados have been announced. The assemblyman died Sunday at the age of 62 from pancreatic cancer.

Visitations will be held at DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W in Marlboro, at the following times:

  • 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 19
  • 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 19
  • 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 20
  • 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 20

A prayer service will be held at DiDonato Funeral Home at 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 20.

Skartados was born on a small island off the coast of Greece. He moved to America at the age of 14 with his mother. He became a citizen Nov. 24, 1976.

He taught at West Point and later became a businessman who hoped to revitalize Poughkeepsie.

Skartados founded the Academy Street Business Association and helped to promote businesses in the area.

He was elected to the state Assembly in 2008, only to lose the seat by 20 votes two years later.

Skartados, a Democrat, was again elected to the position in a special election in March 2012 and served four terms.

The 104th Assembly District represents cities of Newburgh, Beacon and Poughkeepsie and the towns of Newburgh, Marlborough and Lloyd.

Skartados is survived by his daughter Alyssa and brothers Russos and George, who all live in America. He is also survived by other family members in Greece.
