Gale Watch Issued For Sound Shore

The National Weather Service said strong winds can cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Along with the potential for the largest snowfall in years headed for the Hudson Valley Wednesday into Thursday, strong winds are forecast to impact the Sound Shore.

The National Weather Service issued a gale watch for Long Island Sound west of New Haven, Connecticut, and New York Harbor.

The watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night.

Forecasters are calling for northeast winds 20 to 30 knots with gusts up to 40 knots. Seas of 3 to 6 feet are possible.

Mariners should consider changing plans to avoid possible hazardous conditions. Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course and/or secure the vessel for severe winds and seas, the weather service said.
