Man Arrested After Accidentally Shooting Himself: Police

New Rochelle police say an investigation revealed a patient treated for a gunshot wound at Montefiore Hospital has only himself to blame.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — An investigation into a gunshot injury has led to charges for the victim who investigators say accidentally shot himself at the pavilion at Flowers Park.

On Friday evening, the staff at New Rochelle Montefiore Hospital contacted New Rochelle Police to report that a gunshot victim had walked into the Emergency Room. The gunshot victim turned out to also be the shooter, according to cops.

No other injuries were reported in connection with the injuries at the picnic pavilion early that evening, according to investigators.

Kareen J. Manns of New Rochelle was at a gathering at the pavilion at City Park when he accidentally shot himself in the leg, detectives say. The injury was non-life threatening according to doctors treating the 27-year-old man, but the New Rochelle man later was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Reckless Endangerment.
