Names Released in Fatal I-95 Pedestrian Accident

State Police have confirmed the identity of the man killed in Monday's pedestrian accident on I-95 as a 63-year-old New Rochelle man.

Pelham Manor, NY—New York State Troopers have now identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed on I-95 in Pelham Manor near the Hutchinson River Parkway as 63-year-old Luis G. Izarra Ampuero of New Rochelle.

Ampuero was walking in the roadway for unknown reasons when he was struck by a 1983 Chevrolet delivery van being operated by a driver just recently identified as 53-year-old Nam I. Kim of Tappan. Kim was not injured in the accident and no tickets were issued as a result of the crash.

New York State Police responded to a call in the early morning hours Monday from the NYPD of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of the New England Thruway just north of Exit 14 for the Hutchinson River Parkway in Pelham. State Police officials say the pedestrian was struck at around 5:12 am. An NYFD Ambulance initially responded to the scene and treated Ampuero who was declared dead a short time later at 5:35 am.
