NEW ROCHELLE, NY —There is an old adage that says, "You can't fight city hall," but New Rochelle residents once again have the option of at least going to city hall.

The doors to New Rochelle City Hall will open to the public on Monday, but city officials say that most municipal services are still available virtually as well. For now, those who would prefer to handle their local government business in person will have a few additional hoops to jump through in the name of health and safety.

Visitors will be required to provide contact information when entering the building. This measure has been put in place so that in the event anyone in the facility is exposed to coronavirus, contact tracing will be possible.

New regulations will require hand sanitizer to be available in every department and meeting room. Social distancing protocols will be in effect and elevators will be limited to two people at a time. All visitors and city workers will be required to wear masks or face coverings at all times while in the building.

The City Council Committee of the Whole and Regular Legislative Meetings will be conducted in-person starting this month. Attendance at these meetings has been reduced to allow for proper social distancing. A few board meetings will continue to be by remote access only.

The city hall building can only be entered through the rear parking lot entrance. The front doors of the building will remain closed.

Many city services are available online, so residents are encouraged to check the city website to save the trip.
