New Rochelle HS Grad Dies At 20

She was studying to be a nurse at Westchester Community College.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A New Rochelle High School graduate, studying to be a nurse, died Sunday at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx at the age of 20. Courtney O’Connell graduated from the high school in 2015 and was attending Westchester Community College, the Journal News said.

Her family set up a GoFundMe page to help offset medical bills and funeral expenses. Information on the page said she was waiting for a liver transplant when she died.

The fundraising goal was to raise $2,500, but as of the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 31 more than $10,000 had been donated.

O’Connell is survived by her mother Kim, her sister Ashley Brennan, her grandmother Elizabeth O’Connell, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

According to her obituary at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, O’Connell was a member of the New Rochelle High School cheerleading team and loved basketball.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 at Church of the Holy Family, 83 Clove Rd. in New Rochelle.

Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
