Old Fashioned Summer Fun is Back!

Free drop-in program at the Huguenot Children's Library

School’s out: Time for some Old Fashioned Summer Fun at the Huguenot Children’s Library (794 North Avenue; telephone 632-8954). The free drop-in program, sponsored by the Partnership for the Huguenot Children’s Library and made possible by the continuing support of an anonymous donor, lets youngsters spend the day playing ping pong and wiffle ball or enjoying puppet shows, crafts and games organized by enthusiastic young staffers. Old Fashioned Summer Fun offers supervised activities and access to play equipment and games as well as arts and crafts for children aged 3 and up accompanied by a parent or an adult caregiver: All children need to do to participate is show a valid library card. The program runs Monday through Friday, from 10 am to 4:45 pm, from Monday, June 27th until Friday, August 19th (except July 4th).

In addition to Old Fashioned Summer Fun, there are free weekly programs scheduled at the Huguenot Children’s Library throughout the summer; designed to encourage participation in the Summer Reading Game, “Reading Road Trip,” the programs offer great educational experiences through mid-August. Admission to the programs is on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning 15 minutes before the start of each program.

Yoga Kids (4 – 6 years) Limited to 20 children

Using fun games and innovative movements, Michelle from Budding Buddhas will lead children through yoga basics that help with relaxation, concentration and agility. Drop-in; first come/first served.

3, 4, & 5’s (3 - 5 yrs.)

A program of stories, songs, finger plays and a take-home craft, led by a children’s librarian.

Tuesdays, July 7 – August 11, 10:30 am - 11:15 am HCL

Ocean Animal Adventures (3-6 yrs. old) Limited to 20 children

Our Ocean friends live so close to our city of New Rochelle. Follow the adventures of one special ocean critter as she explores her world, meets new friends, and learns about what makes all the animals special and unique. Children will share in the interactive storytelling with the use of toys and real artifacts. Former NY Aquarium educator Dayna Reist will add to the children's hands on learning with music and a take home craft.

Bouncing Babies (6 mos. - 24 mos.)

Music, movement and Mother Goose rhymes with Nora Maher.

Thursdays, July 7 – August 11, 11:45 am - 12:15 pm

Let’s Pretend (3 - 5 yrs.)

An introduction to theater through games, songs and nursery rhymes, with Nora Maher.

Thursdays, July 7 – August 11, 12:30 pm - 1:15 pm
