Post Office Offering Sunday Package Pickup In December

Have you ever gotten a notice of attempted package delivery in your mailbox but you don't have time during the week to retrieve it? To the holiday season easier, 30 post offices in the Hudson Valley are expanding package pickup beyond the usual Monday through Saturday schedule to include the first four Sundays in December.

As an added convenience, the following 30 Post Offices are offering Sunday package pickup from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 22:

When it comes to mailing holiday packages, people can skip the trip to the Post Office by using the Click-N-Ship feature and other online services at the Postal Service’s website to order free Priority Mail boxes, print shipping labels with postage and request free next-day Package Pickup.

Nationally, the U.S. Postal Service expects to deliver 800 million packages between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. The busiest time of the season peaks two weeks before Christmas, when much last-minute shopping starts. Customer traffic is expected to increase beginning Dec. 9, while the week of Dec. 16 is expected to be the busiest time for mailing, shipping and delivery. Additionally, the Postal Service predicts that nearly 2.5 billion pieces of First-Class Mail, including greeting cards, will be processed and delivered the week of Dec. 16.
