Scattered Thunderstorms, Damaging Winds Possible Sunday

The National Weather Service said wind gusts could cause some downed tree limbs and power lines.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The National Weather Service said showers and scattered thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts are possible Sunday evening.

For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, a line of showers and scattered thunderstorms will move from west to east across the region along a strong cold front Sunday evening.

The line will move through areas north and west of New York City between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. and areas along the Hudson River between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

There is the potential for damaging wind gusts in excess of 58 mph with the line of showers and thunderstorms. The winds could bring down trees and power lines.

For Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties, the line of showers and scattered thunderstorms will be moving through mainly between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

There is a the potential for a brief period of wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph along this line, the weather service said. Winds will remain gusty for a few hours following this line overnight.

The winds may cause some downed tree limbs and power lines, resulting in isolated to scattered power outages.
