Snow, Ice: Winter Weather Advisories Issued For Hudson Valley

Here's the latest about the hazardous outlooks on the morning and evening commutes.​

UPDATE — More freezing rain and less snow are being delivered by the storm hitting the Hudson Valley. The National Weather Service said to expect additional snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch.

The winter weather advisory is in effect for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester counties until 6 p.m. Tuesday. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could affect the morning or evening commute.


The National Weather Service issued winter weather advisories for the mid- and lower Hudson Valley counties. The NWS warns of slippery road conditions everywhere that could effect the morning and evening commutes.

For Dutchess and Ulster counties, the advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Monday to 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches and ice accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch. The greatest ice accretion is expected over southern Dutchess and Litchfield counties. The snow will begin from south to north from 10 pm to 1 am. The snow could be moderate to heavy at times overnight, with rates of half an inch up to an inch per hour at times. The snow will turn to sleet and freezing rain around daybreak Tuesday.

For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester, the advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch. The highest snow accumulation will occur across the Lower Hudson Valley and interior southwest Connecticut.

For southern Westchester, the advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch.

The folks at Hudson Valley Weather warn of "significant icing" possible in parts of the lower Hudson Valley on Tuesday.

The storm is coming in from the southwest, so precipitation will move northeast up the valley.

Snow, sleet, freezing rain or rain — whichever you've got — will taper off between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday from west to east, according to Hudson Valley Weather's final forecast.

Before that, bad road conditions could lead to school delays, closings and other schedule and event changes.

Freezing rain could cause damage and lead to some power outages.

Then on Wednesday, deep cold will flow into the valley. Lows will be in the teens Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.
