On Friday,
May 23rd Tammy McCann and
Laurence Hobgood return to Roscoe’s Room to celebrate Legendary Ladies
of Jazz. By the 1950s, four unique women had risen to the top of American
music: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Dinah Washington.
Their distinctive styles and mastery changed not only the direction of jazz,
but the course of popular music. Hear their celebrated hit songs through the
remarkable vocal styling of Tammy McCann, the songstress Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune
says possesses “one of the most voluptuously beautiful voices in jazz.” Joining
Tammy is Grammy winning pianist and arranger Laurence Hobgood. Two
seatings, 7:30 and 9:30 PM; tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the
door, $10 for students with valid ID.
