Tropical Storm Watch In Effect For Parts Of Hudson Valley
Tropical Storm Isaias is working its way up the east coast.

LOWER HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A tropical storm watch was issued for the lower Hudson Valley. At 7:13 p.m. the National Weather Service added that the region, from northeastern New Jersey to southern Connecticut, should prepare for life-threatening rainfall flooding starting late Monday night.
Potential impacts include:
- Major rainfall flooding may prompt many rescues.
- Rivers and streams may rapidly overflow their banks in multiple places. Small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches may become dangerous rivers.
- Flood control systems and barriers may become stressed.
- In hilly terrain, destructive runoff may run quickly down valleys.
- Flood waters may enter some structures within multiple communities. Many places where flood waters may cover escape routes. Streets and parking lots become rivers of moving water with underpasses submerged.
- Driving conditions become dangerous.
- Several road and bridge closures are possible.
Locally, the watch is in effect for Rockland, northern Westchester and southern Westchester counties.

Heavy rain is expected with a widespread 2 to 4 inches likely, with localized amounts up to 6 inches possible. The heavy rain is most likely to occur across western parts of the area from late Monday night through Tuesday night, and eastern sections Tuesday into Tuesday night.
A tropical storm watch means tropical storm-force winds are possible somewhere within those two counties during the next 48 hours.

For both counties, there is a threat to life and property that includes typical forecast uncertainty in track, size and intensity.
The peak wind forecast is 35 to 56 mph winds with gusts to 60 mph.
The window for tropical storm force winds is Tuesday afternoon until early Wednesday morning.
For southern Westchester, there is the potential for wind 58 mph to 73 mph.
For northern Westchester and Rockland, there is the potential for wind 39 mph to 57 mph.
Potential impacts include some damage to roofing and siding materials, along with damage to porches, awnings, carports and sheds. Mobile homes could be damaged, especially if unanchored.
Large trees could be snapped or uprooted.
Some roads could be impassable from large debris. A few bridges, causeways and access routes could become impassable.
Localized storm surge of up to 2 feet is possible in some areas.
