Camper Fire On The MCB Snarled Commuter Traffic On I-87

Expect long delays on I-87 at the beginning of rush hour.

UPDATE — Traffic returned to normal several hours after an intense car fire brought the northbound span of the Mario Cuomo Bridge over the Tappan Zee to a halt.


NYACK, NY — A camper on fire on the Mario Cuomo Bridge halted northbound traffic on the New York State Thruway. The bridge over the Hudson River was shut down on one side as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

The fire created a high plume of thick black smoke.

It was visible as far north as Montrose, according to posters on Kempter's Fire Wire.

The camper was carrying propane, according to Rockland Fires. It was also towing a car.
