The closure has caused bad traffic tie-ups for the morning commute. Traffic was reported stop-and-go between Route 202 and the Palisades Parkway.
A car hit a fire hydrant around 5 a.m. causing a water blast and then a sinkhole. Authorities currently expect clean up and repairs to be sufficient for the road to reopen by noon.
