Did You Receive an "Account Locked" Email From Amazon?

It's a scam--a phishing email.

Loading...

Earlier today, I received an email that appeared to be from Amazon with the subject "Account Locked." The sender was "no-reply@amazon.com."

I contacted Amazon Customer Service and verified that it had NOT been sent by the company. This message was a well-constructed phishing email, meant to solicit account and credit card information. If you receive a similar message, DO NOT click on any buttons or links in it. Instead, if you want to check your account, contact Amazon Customer Service by phone or email.

In general, there are a variety of ways to verify an email sender's address. In mail applications like AOL and Gmail, hover over the address before you open the message. If the address looks bogus, don't open it. If you have opened it and are suspicious, try clicking on "FORWARD." The real sender's address may appear in the header information.

Lastly, you can and should report such phishing email. The Amazon address is stopspoofing@amazon.com. The address for the U. S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is phishing-report@US-cert.gov.
