ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A 27-year-old accused of a Christmas Eve hit-and-run in Rockland County has been indicted, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced Wednesday. Jorge Flores-Villalba is a Mexican national who has twice entered the U.S.A. illegally, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Flores-Villalba was indicted on a charge of leaving the scene of an incident causing a personal injury that results in death without reporting, which is a felony. The charge stems from a fatal collision at the intersection of Liberty Dr and Filors Lane in Stony Point Dec. 24 that took the life of Maria Osai, 35. Police arrested Flores-Villalba, a Haverstraw resident who did not have a license, on Dec. 25, alleging he was the driver of the car that hit Osai and left.

"I can’t even imagine the pain and despair that the family of Maria Osai felt losing their loved one the day before Christmas," District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh, II said Wednesday. "I know that the Stony Point Police Department, Haverstraw Police Department and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office has worked with my team to seek justice for Maria in this tragic case. I have full faith that they will not relent until the job is complete."

On Dec. 30, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested Flores-Villalba in Haverstraw. A Mexican national, Flores-Villalba had been apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol in 2008 when he attempted to enter the country illegally, and returned to Mexico, ICE officials said. They did not know when Flores-Villalba re-entered the U.S.A. illegally after that.

ICE officials said they were alerted to Flores-Villalba's arrest after his fingerprints revealed his 2008 removal.
