Jabouin Arraigned In Nyack Street Shooting Case

He faces eight counts of murder, robbery and weapons possession.

NYACK, NY — Jason Jabouin, 33, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, has been arraigned in connection with the killing and robbery of Ryan Franklin in Nyack at 10 a.m. May 22.

He is accused of shooting Franklin twice on South Midland Avenue and stealing his cellphone.

After the altercation with Franklin, Jabouin fled the state, prosecutors alleged. He was picked up in Maryland after a traffic stop at 12:30 a.m.

Franklin, 30, was a West Haverstraw resident. Jabouin had been a Haverstraw resident.

"This senseless act of violence in the Village of Nyack has left many residents in shock," District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh, II said. "My deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Ryan Franklin. The Rockland County District Attorney's Office will ensure that justice is served in this horrific crime."

Jabouin was arraigned on:

  • three counts of Murder in the Second Degree (class “A” felonies);
  • two counts of Robbery in the First Degree (class “B” felonies);
  • two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (class “C” felonies);
  • one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (a class “D” felony)

Jabouin appeared in front of Hon. Larry J. Schwartz, Rockland County Court Judge, and
sent without bail back to the Rockland County Jail. He is due back in court Sept. 30.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Patrick Frawley and First Assistant District Attorney Dominic Crispino are prosecuting the case.

"The determination and skill of Orangetown Police Department detectives, officers and our law enforcement partners in seeking justice for Mr. Franklin and his family was shown throughout this investigation," said Orangetown Police Chief Donald Butterworth. "We will continue to work closely with the Rockland County District Attorney in the prosecution of the perpetrator of this violent criminal act. The Orangetown Police Department remains committed to serving all people who live, work or visit our community."

Jabouin faces a maximum of 25 years to life in state prison if convicted of murder in the second degree.
