Laurel Plains Elementary Student Tests Positive For COVID-19

The student was in school Monday and Tuesday, which was during the student's infectious period, officials said.

CLARKSTOWN, NY – Laurel Plains Elementary School student has tested positive for COVID-19, school officials announced Thursday.

The student was in school Monday and Tuesday, which was during the student's infectious period, officials said.

The Rockland County Department of Health will conduct the necessary contract tracing to identify those who were in close contact with the student.

One classroom has been impacted, Room #2. Students in this class were dismissed early Thursday and will remain on remote instruction throughout the required quarantine period, which runs through May 21. The students may return on May 24.

All other classes at Laurel Plains will continue with in-person instruction.

"This case at Laurel Plains is a reminder that the pandemic is not over," said Carol Pilla, Laurel Plains Principal, in a prepared statement. "Wearing masks, social distancing, hand washing and hand sanitizer use are important safety measures we are taking at all of our schools and you should continue at home."
