Memorial Service for David Alan Pedersen is March 1

Mr. Pedersen was a former Executive Director of the Rockland County YMCA in Nyack.

The Rockland County YMCA will hold a Memorial Service for David Alan Pedersen, 64, of Pearl River, NY, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2015. Mr. Pedersen was the President of Pedersen’s Travel in New City and was a former Executive Director of the Rockland County YMCA in Nyack.

Family and friends will gather for the service on Sunday, March 1st at 4:00 pm at the Rockland County YMCA at 35 South Broadway in Nyack. The service will be followed by a reception in the community room. The public is invited and anyone wishing to attend should RSVP to ecarson@rocklandymca.org to confirm your attendance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the following organizations: The Rockland County YMCA, The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, Hi-Tor Animal Shelter and the Historical Society of Rockland.

While serving as YMCA Executive Director from 1988-1994, David provided leadership for a campaign to renovate the swimming pool and facilities in Nyack, and supported the growth and expansion of programs throughout Rockland County.

David was an active member of Rotary, serving as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President and President of the New City Rotary Club. He also served as District Governor in 1987-1988 of District 7210 and was named as a National Coordinator for Polio Plus to help eradicate polio around the world.

He continued to serve on many Boards of Directors including: the Rockland County YMCA, Jawonio, and Hi-Tor Animal Shelter. He served on the election campaign for C. Scott Vanderhoef for County Executive of Rockland and worked as Project Coordinator of the Rockland Environmental Corps and the Rockland County Youth Bureau.

David was a unique soul who was never forgotten by anyone and loved by all that knew him. His profound, eloquent manner was appreciated by all, as was his amazing sense of humor, which was perhaps his greatest gift. If you wish to add to the list of testimonials, they may be sent to:
