Schleifer: “His Bravery Inspires Everything I Do”

White Plains, NY – Adam P. Schleifer, Democratic candidate for Congress in New York’s 17th Congressional District, reflected on his grandfather’s legacy in his third television ad, which was released on International Holocaust Remembrance Day – Yom HaShoah. The ad tells the story of Schleifer’s grandfather and hero, Rubin Partel, who was the only member of his family to survive the Holocaust. Schleifer also details how grandfather was kidnapped and enslaved in a Nazi concentration camp, where he intentionally destroyed weapons meant for genocide.
Schleifer explains how his grandfather Rubin inspired him to stand up to bullies as a New York consumer protection regulator and federal prosecutor.

As a New York consumer protection regulator, I took on predatory lenders and abuse in our health insurance system. And as a federal prosecutor, I fought fraudsters and bullies and took guns off of our streets. In Congress I’ll do the same for you.

It’s time we come together, to get things done.

In March, Schleifer launched the first television ad in the race to succeed Lowey, featuring his younger brother David, who has special needs and has served as an inspiration throughout Schleifer’s life and career.

Earlier this month, Schleifer released a second ad recorded with a smartphone as part of his continued effort to fight the spread of COVID-19.

Schleifer’s ad aired on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yom HaShoah. Yom HaShoah is a day set aside for Jews to remember the Holocaust. The name comes from the Hebrew word ‘shoah’, which means ‘whirlwind’. Schleifer’s campaign, inspired by his grandfather’s bravery, has gained a whirlwind of support as he focuses on fighting against guns, pollution, and consumer fraud in Rockland and Westchester.

A former-Assistant United States Attorney, Schleifer prosecuted major federal crimes including major financial frauds, illegal gun possession, environmental crimes, and sexual violence, exploitation, and intimidation. Schleifer’s grandfather, Rubin Partel, was born in 1919 in Czestochowa, Poland and passed away in 2008 in New York. He was the only member of his family to survive slave labor in the Holocaust before immigrating to the United States in 1947 to begin a new life and family with his wife, Frances Partel. Rubin was the proud and devoted father to Helene Kaminsky and Schleifer’s mother, Harriet Schleifer. Adam Schleifer and his family are lifelong members of Bet Torah Synagogue in Westchester.
