NY Gives Highway Safety Grants To Nyack, Piermont, South Nyack

Town and village police and county agencies received money for programs ranging from pedestrian safety to traffic services.

NYACK, NY — Nyack, Piermont, South Nyack and Grand View are among the local recipients of federal highway safety grants awarded to programs across New York for projects addressing overall highway safety, child passenger safety and police traffic services.

The state is distributing more than $37 million to help reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes to more than 500 programs in local, state and nonprofit agencies.

"This funding is critical to the localities and community organizations that help ensure our roads are safe for everyone who use them," state Assemblyman William Magnarelli, chair of the Transportation Committee, said in an announcement.

Local programs receiving grants include:

  • Clarkstown Police Department: Police Traffic Service $19,250
  • Rockland Community Outreach Center: Child Passenger Safety Program $6,350.00
  • Rockland Community Outreach Center: Always be Careful $38,520.00
  • Haverstraw Town Police Department: Police Traffic Service $10,230.00
  • Orangetown Police Department: Police Traffic Service $14,000.00
  • Piermont Village Police Department: Police Traffic Service $7,400.00
  • Ramapo Police Department: Pedestrian Enforcement and Education $13,060.00
  • Ramapo Police Department: Police Traffic Service $30,765.00
  • Rockland County Department of Health: Pedestrian & Bicycling Safety & Driver Awareness in Rockland $46,625.00
  • Rockland County Sheriff's Office: Child Passenger Safety Program $2,900.00
  • Rockland County Sheriff's Office: Police Traffic Service $10,450.00
  • South Nyack-Grand View Village Police Department: Child Passenger Safety Program $1,300.00
  • South Nyack-Grand View Village Police Department: Police Traffic Service $6,400.00
  • Spring Valley Village Police Department: Child Passenger Safety Program $1,950.00
  • Spring Valley Village Police Department: Police Traffic Service $15,312.00
  • Stony Point Town Police Department: Child Passenger Safety Program $1,000.00
