Nyack Business Spotlight: Aerial Yoga in the Center of Town

Meet Shira Turkl-Rubin of Soul Flyte.

Every local business has a story worth sharing with the community. The plan behind this series at Patch is to shine the spotlight on all our favorite local businesses, and to learn a little about the ones we may not know that well.

This is as much about supporting local businesses as it is about celebrating the places and faces that make our community special. Click here to get to a simple form where local business owners can answer a few quick questions to be part of this ongoing feature.

It was a process to find the perfect name! Our AntiGravity® aerial yoga and fitness classes are the perfect blend of soul and flyte mixed into one awesome fitness experience.

Why choose that location? Why start a business in this town?

We’re located in the center of town on the corner of Main and Broadway above Turiellos Pizza shop. Nyack is the perfect town to try something new. People are open minded and always looking for something fun to do.

Briefly, what business are you in?

Yoga/Fitness

What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?

So far it was building the space, making sure everything was up to code, getting permits, etc.!

Were there any challenges that made you second guess your decision to be an entrepreneur?

There are a ton of regular yoga studios in town, so we were always nervous about failing - but there aren’t any aerial yoga studios until Soul Flyte popped up! Creating this studio has been a dream and we weren’t going to let any fears stop us.

What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?

Watching the brand come alive with the logo, website, t-shirts, stickers and flyers. We’ve always wanted to create a brand - and here it is!

What’s the most innovative idea your employees or customers have had that you put into practice?

Creating a Groupon Ad, which we are currently in the works for now.

How do you deal with difficult customers?

The customer is always right - so we kill everything with kindness. We respect each and every person who walks into the door, calls on the phone or emails us.

How does your business give back or get involved in the community?

We created a campaign as a soft opening that offered free classes to people who work in the businesses of Nyack. It was received very well and we might consider doing it again in the future!
