Nyack To Host Biggest Halloween Parade Outside NYC

Spooktacular costumes and floats, fun for families and adults, 20,000 spectators and $2K in prize money as Nyack goes all out again.

NYACK, NY — If you're just making plans, make sure you don't miss Nyack's great Halloween celebration, highlighted by the 32nd annual Halloween Parade Oct. 26. There's a lot going on all day! (See list below)

If you're not just going to watch the parade along with the other 20,000 other spectators, then you should register your costume, float, house or lawn decoration for the chance to win a prize!

The Nyack parade is the biggest Halloween parade outside Greenwich Village. Plus there's a lot more going on. The festivities have been growing in creative ways in recent years, including live entertainment and lots of food.

Kids and families will like the Trick-or-Treat Trail, which the Nyack Chamber of Commerce is running for the third year. They'll distribute about 800 trick-or-treat bags and maps of the village and participating businesses at Veterans Memorial Park.

Also, it's the second annual House and Lawn Decoration Contest sponsored by Better Homes And Gardens Rand Realty of Nyack.

So everyone strolls through the already picturesque village, which outdoes itself for Halloween. And everyone gathers early to see and be seen, and to admire the winning costumes at the park, where the judging takes place before the parade.

It's the 32nd Annual parade and the costumes are always amazing. Last year once again broke records, with the crowd of spectators estimated at more than 20,000.Here are some photos from 2018 just to get your creative juices going.

Here's what's going on:

  • Trick-or-Treat Trail: At 1:00 pm, Nyack businesses open their doors and bottomless bags of candy to costumed kids of all ages. Maps and treat bags at the Veterans Memorial Park gazebo on Main Street
  • All-day music festival: Featuring live bands at locations throughout the village starting at 1:00 pm
  • Parade and contest registration: Begins at 3:00 pm in Memorial Park; competitors get in line for cash and other prizes valued at over $2,000
  • 32nd Annual Halloween Parade: Steps off from Memorial Park at 5:30 pm; marching bands, festooned fire trucks, fantasmagorical floats and a host of costumed revelers
  • Contest winners announced post-parade: Main Street parking lot. Cash prizes awarded for floats and costumes, plus custom trophies designed by local artist Peter Cheney
  • Post-parade parties: Village restaurants and night spots offer special food, fun, music
  • House and lawn decorating contest: Great prizes for the spookiest houses. Judging from 10/26 – 11/6. Prize party at Casa del Sol in Nyack on 11/7 at 7:00 pm.
