Nyack School Board To Hold Budget Hearing Tuesday

Several capital improvements will also be on the ballot May 18.

NYACK, NY — The Nyack Board of Education will hold its annual budget hearing on Tuesday.

The proposed $91,388,000 proposal only raises spending by 0.78 percent. The tax levy will not increase.

Voters will be asked to approve a separate proposition authorizing part of the district's fund balance be used for facilities improvements. That includes:

  • $940,000 – At Nyack Middle School to expand parking facilities and improve traffic flow through the campus
  • $160,000 – In the middle school cafeteria to improve functionality for students and food service workers
  • $200,000 – At Nyack High School to support creation of an environmentally sustainable parking area adjacent to the athletic fields and to improve the campus roadway
  • $970,000 – At Hilltop Professional Development/Conference Center to convert the former college leased fitness center into a professional development conference site for the District.

Capital improvements are also eligible for state building aid, so about 43 percent of the projects' cost will be reimbursed. There will be no impact on the tax levy, district officials said.

Residents of the district will also vote to fill two seats on the Board of Education. Trustee Damon Bender's second term expires in June as does Karen Hughes' third term. they, plus Upper Nyack parent and longtime educator John Duval are running.
