The 5,000 square foot, custom concrete structure is the result of a five-year long, grassroots community effort led by Nyack resident Sarah Anderson and the “Nyack Needs a Skatepark” committee.
Events produced by the committee included “Deckade” - an exhibit of the Bobshirt Collection of skateboards and skateboard artwork, a concert at the Nyack Center headlined by punk rock legends “The Misfits” and multiple skateboard events and contests held in the center of the village. In the summer of 2014, the skatepark committee’s efforts won the top award of $25,000 from the Tony Hawk Foundation. NY State Senator David Carlucci played an important role in securing $100,000 in funds for the project.
