Obituary: Raymond 'Crabman' Holmes Jr., 78
Holmes was a long-time member and former chief of the Piermont Fire Department
PIERMONT, NY — The Piermont Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of their members who served for more than 60 years.
Ex-chief Raymond "Crabman" Holmes Jr. died Friday at the age of 78.
His service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Piermont Pier, 200 Ferry Road in Piermont. New coronavirus protocols will be followed.

In a Facebook post, the Piermont Fire Department said Holmes was an ex-chief of the department. He also had been a part-time police officer and worked his way up to becoming the highway superintendent for the village of Piermont.
He also served his country by proudly enlisting in the United States Navy, the post said.

"Ray had a heart of gold, but also didn't hold back, if he had something to say, he would tell what he thought," the department said.
According to his obituary, Holmes was pre-deceased by his wife of 50 years, Lois. He is survived by three daughters, four grandchildren, four siblings and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Piermont Fire Department or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline are requested.
