Pedestrian, Bicycle Path Opens Monday On Mario Cuomo Bridge

NYACK, NY — The pedestrian and bicycle path across the Tappan Zee on the new bridge will open at 2 p.m. Monday, New York State Thruway officials announced Sunday evening.

The 12-foot wide path is on the northern side of the westbound span of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. Separated from traffic by a concrete barrier, the path features six scenic overlooks across the length of the 3.1-mile crossing of the Hudson River.

Also along the path are 10 works by eight artists who won a competition run by the Arts Council of Rockland and ArtsWestchester in partnership with the New York State Thruway Authority. The 10 commissions include five sculptures, four bicycle racks and one mural. Three of the sculptures incorporate remnant steel salvaged from the decommissioned Tappan Zee Bridge. Locations include each end of the path at Rockland and Westchester Landings, as well as along the side path in South Nyack.

WHAT: The new 3.6-mile shared bicycle-pedestrian path on the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge will open to the public.

WHEN: Monday, June 15 at 2 p.m.

WHERE: The 12-foot wide shared use path extends from its Westchester Landing (333 South Broadway) in the village of Tarrytown, across one of the widest points of the Hudson River, to the Rockland Landing in the village of South Nyack (1200 Route 9W).

VISITOR INFORMATION:

Visitor parking, restrooms, bicycle repair stations and other amenities, along with connectivity to local bicycle and pedestrian networks, will be available at both landings.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, path visitors should wear a face mask and practice social distancing by keeping at least six feet of distance between themselves and others.
