Police Make Arrest In Sunday Slaying In Nyack

NYACK, NY — Orangetown police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting death of Nyack resident Gregory Debuisson Sunday evening.

Wendy Jean of South Nyack was taken into custody after fast investigative work by Orangetown police with assistance from Clarkstown, Grandview and South Nyack police, said Orangetown Chief Donald Butterworth at a news conference Monday afternoon.

Called at 7 p.m. to the corner of Main and Franklin streets, police found Debuisson, 35, lying on the ground. They and emergency responders administered first aid until he was taken by ambulance to Montefiore Nyack Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"Our community is heartbroken right now," said Nyack Mayor Don Hammond during the news conference. "We're going to come together and talk about what we can do to support the family. His dad recently passed away so this family is really hurting."

Witnesses to the incident said men were arguing after coming out of a local bar, the Daily Voice reported.

Butterworth said police immediately began searching for the shooter. He said when they took Jean, 26, into custody, police also recovered a .357 revolver alleged to be the weapon.

Jean faces charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, felonies. He was arraigned virtually Monday morning and sent to the Rockland County Jail. He is due back in court Dec. 3.

At the news conference, Rockland District Attorney Thomas Walsh complimented police for apprehending the suspect so quickly. "We will do everything that we can to ensure that justice is done in this case," he said.
